Dear Parents,
Hello from The Dance Company. We have had a great term so far and looking forward to the rest of the academic year. We have welcomed lots of new friends to the school and as always lovely to see familiar faces.
Also a big welcome to Sophie who is now my teaching assistant on a Saturday. Sophie has been apart of the school since she was little. Sophie is part of the Senior Elite Team and a friendly face in the studio. It’s been fab having her by my side the last half term 🙂 Don’t worry Miss Talitha is still around, taking private lessons and helping to cover classes.
We have also welcomed Miss Hope who has come in to teach Contemporary to our Seniors as well as being a featured teacher at our first TDC Workshop.
IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER
SATURDAY 9TH DECEMBER- LAST DAY OF TERM
TDC Uniform
It’s been so exciting this term seeing everyone in their new TDC uniform. Everyone looks amazing.
I have been advised by Squad Dance Wear that they will soon be closing their pre Christmas orders so please do order your uniform as soon as possible. This includes Street Dance uniform- Zoodie and T-Shirt. (Also available to all students which make fab Christmas presents). squaddancewear.com- you can order via Uniform on the website www.the-dancecompany.co.uk
Shoes and other uniform can still be purchased from our new online store www.tdo.mydancestore.co.uk. Harriet is around at the beginning of term to help with sizing etc, if you are unsure please do ask.
TDC Acro and Commercial Workshop
Thank you so much to all the students who took part in the Half Term Workshop, it was great fun. This was the first time I have been able to hold one (thanks to Covid) and it was a success. I will definitely be looking into holding more during school breaks. Thank you to Miss Hope 🙂
Communication at TDC
It is very important we have a correct contact number for you as WhatsApp is currently our preferred choice of communication. We have had more success in reaching parents using this direct messaging service. If you haven’t been receiving any messages from TDC or you haven’t received your latest invoice please speak to myself or Harriet.
GOOD LUCK TDC
TDC ELITE TEAMS– On behalf of the whole school I would like to say BEST OF LUCK to our Elite Teams who will be competing at the SO YOU WANT TO DANCE COMPETITION at The Electric Theatre, Guildford on Sunday 12th November. You will all be FAB! Photos to follow.
Everybody at TDC has been working so hard, as always I am so proud!
Fundraising
Our SHOW Fundraising is well under way and of course we will be continuing this into the festive period. We will be having 2 fundraisers on Saturday 4th November. A Halloween/ Fireworks bake sale- if you would like to bake cakes or cookies to sell please bring them along to the WERFA by 9:30 and our TDC students are invited to dress up in either a Halloween costume or something to represent Bonfire Night eg bright colours like a firework. We are asking for a £1 donation and a box will be outside the dance studio.
Date for your diary: Saturday 2nd December: TDC CHRISTMAS MOVIE NIGHT. Tickets will include entry and snacks. Price TBC.
Thank you for your support.
We have plans for more fundraisers this year to enable us to have our FAB lighting for the Show and maybe more! We hope to do a TDC Auction at some point so if you have a local business (hairdressing, nails, anything craft, baking???) or know of anyone who would be happy to donate a service or a gift please let us know as we are starting to plan this. We also hope to be doing termly raffles…..any ideas are welcome.

Terms and Conditions
This is your termly reminder to take a moment to read the Terms and Conditions. Please note since becoming TDC the Fees and Notice sections have been updated. A copy will be displayed at the WERFA. Thank you.

I just wanted to say a big thank you to all parents/ carers as I have noticed a huge improvement in the overall presentation and grooming of my TDC students. Nearly all students turn up to the studio with their hair in buns and away from the face. This has shown it has a big impact on how everybody dances, as I have seen lots of confidence ….and sass this term 🙂
After a few suggestions I will be updating the website with a ‘How to do a Ballet Bun’ video over the next week as some of you have mentioned you are still struggling with this. I often have to redo hair during the lessons which obviously takes up valuable teaching time. The more pins and grips the better.
Grooming and Uniform
Grooming forms a strong part of the etiquette and uniform for dancers. It allows us teachers to observe the line of the head and neck, which are all important aspects of good training in posture and alignment starting at the age of three. It is tricky to concentrate on movements if your hair is flicking across your face and eyes.
For Ballet, Tap and Acro all hair for girls should be in a bun (using a hair-tie, donut and hair pins is all you need, see us if you are not sure) Hair should be pulled back from the face with a pink headband and clips to secure although if hair is in a bun a headband is not necessary. We understand that putting very young dancers’ hair back into ponytails and buns can be challenging!!
Strength & Conditioning and Jazz hair must be worn in a pony tail (high if possible) and off the face- no headband needed.
Street Dance skirts and dresses for girls are not suitable, leggings, cycle shorts, tracksuit bottoms are. Crocs and sandals are also unsuitable, please wear Trainers or plimsolls. TDC Black Zoodies and Black T-shirts are part of the Street Dance uniform (prices below). No headband needed and hair needs to be tied back (not down).
Can we please ask that correct uniform is worn in each class. Combined Ballet & Tap classes need both pairs of appropriate shoes. Please refer to the website or ask one of the TDC Team.
TDC MOTTO ‘IF YOU LOOK LIKE A DANCER, YOU FEEL LIKE A DANCER’

Newsletters
We aim to upload Newsletters to the website a couple of weeks before the end of term. Please check the website for end of term information, e.g. End of term watching.
A link to newsletters will sent via WhatsApp but it always worth checking the website for any up to date information.
Communication
If we have to suddenly cancel classes for any reason, ie. weather, natural events, illness etc you will receive direct communication from us or always check the website.
We mainly communicate via WhatsApp as we can send out a Broadcast to you all.
Please save our mobile number to your contacts: 07376 397748.
WERFA Car Park
It has been brought to my attention by local residents and dancing parents that parking in front of the WERFA has become increasingly difficult. I am aware there are no set out bays but could you please park in a considerate way (ie not horizontally) so cars are not then parked in front of drives, please use my car (parked the closest to the front door) as a guide. If this is a struggle there is parking along Riverside Walk and Woodlands Gardens (both a short walk away). Thank you for your co-operation.
Admin/ Office Hours
Harriet will be around from 8:45-13:15 for the first couple of weeks of term to help assist with uniform (please see Online Shop info) and fee queries, as well as new registrations. Depending on sickness and any other absences Harriet will teach in the studio.
We are trying to be as cashless as possible. We will of course still accept cash but please be aware change will not be given until the following week. Thank you for your co-operation.
Keeping TDC Informed
This is a polite message to ensure we are given up to date contact details for when your child is at dancing. After a recent experience in which we couldn’t get in contact with a parent, if you know you may not be contactable when your child is in my care we must have contact details for another carer. This is very important especially in the event of an emergency. Thank you for your co-operation.
Social Media Come and follow us on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. There are lots of photos and videos of our fabulous dancers, you will really see their progression, it’s lovely to see. Finally
Thank you for all your continued support.
