End of Autumn Term Newsletter 2024

‘CHAPTER 1- TDC’S VERY 1ST SHOW!!

We have had a fab term learning show dances and I know our boys and girls can’t wait to show you what they have been learning. I think you will be super impressed, I know I am.

SHOW FEE- Thank you all for your show fee payments, the exclusive SHOW T-Shirt will be given to your child in the New Year. Please make sure you let me know your child’s T-Shirt size in the next week if you haven’t done already (best to size bigger as the show isn’t until mid Feb). 

COSTUMES

I appreciate this is a lot of families first show they are taking part in so thank you all for being so patient and supportive while we sort out costumes, trying on different sizes and making sure they compliment the dances perfectly 🙂 it’s very exciting. Costume Invoices are now being sent out via email. Once payment is received I can give out the costume. Please note the SHOW FEE is a separate payment to Costume Invoices- all dances have a costume for their dance- Please take a look at pictures from our last Show ‘Together We Dance’ under the Performances tab on our website to give you an idea how amazing our dancers look on stage. Just to re-confirm every class your child takes will have a dance in the show eg. Pre-Primary children will be in 3 dances, Ballet, Tap and Jazz. 

It goes without saying once costumes are received they must be labelled with your child’s name, hung on a named hanger and stored away until the Dress Rehearsal. From experience storing costumes in a dance costume bag protects them the best and makes it easy to transport back and forth from the Theatre. These can be found on Amazon or eBay. Any questions myself or Miss Harriet are happy to advise. I’m afraid I can not take responsibility for any costumes damaged at home this includes dirt marks unless it is a fault on arrival.

CHAPERONES

It is a must that for the show to go ahead we will need chaperones to help in the dressing rooms. In previous shows Mums/ Carers even Nans or Aunties 🙂 would watch one show and help at the other. If you are able to commit to this please let Miss Harriet know. It would also be great if you could give us a rough idea of which show you plan to help at. Afternoon or Evening?

We do have a few requirements/ requests:

• Female only chaperones in the dressing rooms.
• Unfortunately you will not be able to bring other children/ dependents backstage during show time. Only authorised people will be allowed backstage for the safety of your children.
• All chaperones will need to purchase a ticket to watch the show.
• You will not be placed in your own child’s dressing room, from experience this has had a negative impact on not only your child but the rest of our dancers who will be relying on your help. Many children are in multiple dancers so will need alot of attention.

VENUE: The ACT Theatre, Kingston College, Kingston Hall Road, Kingston upon Thames, Surrey, KT1 2AQ (nearest parking available is The Rose- Multi-Storey Car Park and The Bittoms- Surface Car Park is 24 hours)

There are only a limited amount of tickets left for each show now so please purchase as soon as possible to make sure you can view the show. Performance are at 1:30 and 6:00. You will not be allowed into the theatre without a valid ticket. (Link is below :-))

TDC Uniform

This is a lil Spring Term reminder that all students should now be wearing the bespoke black TDC uniform. If your child is still wearing the blue leotard and you are unsure of how to order the black TDC uniform please speak to myself or Miss Harriet. The Black TDC Iris Leotard is for all students from Tiny Tots to our Seniors, Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Conditioning and Acro inclusive. Street Dance uniform includes the compulsory TDC T-shirt and TDC Zoodie.

The ordering information for each class is in the Uniform section which includes the links to the online stores and specific uniform.

The Black TDC Iris Leotard can be purchased from squaddancewear.com. You will have to register for an account to access the TDC page and don’t worry this page isn’t just for the Elite Team uniform, any student can purchase the TDC T-shirt, Zoodie, Bag, Leggings or Shorts (only the Crop Tops, Pants and Jacket is exclusive to the Elite Teams)

All other uniform for Ballet and Tap classes are to be purchased from tdo.mydancestore.co.uk. Please refer to the menu drop down on the left for your child’s class.

I have noticed this term students are starting to look a bit messy with their hair and uniform in class (such a shame as over the last few terms I was so impressed with everyone and this made such a difference with progress in class). All classes, except for Street Dance, hair should be in a low classical bun and loose hairs pulled back off the face, Street Dance hair should be in a high pony tail with loose hair pulled back away from the face. Correct uniform should also be worn. Going forward I will be monitoring each class. Well done to the Lower School who have been stars so far this term with their presentation, FAB!!

TDC Elite Teams

We attended ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ at The Venue, Walton High, Milton Keynes in November and walked away with some FAB results.

Sadly none of our entries qualified for The Dance World Cup in Spain next year, we can’t wait to try again for 2026. SPECIAL WELL DONE TO OUR MINI LYRICAL TRIO FOR PLACING 8TH IN THE WHOLE OF THE UK AND ARE ON THE RESERVES LIST 🙂

I can’t thank my Elite parents enough for your support this past term with extra rehearsals, last minute class changes, the team couldn’t succeed without you all. I am so proud of the girls commitments!

Communication at TDC

It is very important we have a correct contact number for you as WhatsApp is currently our preferred choice of communication especially for urgent messages and group messages. We have definitely had more success in reaching parents using this direct messaging service. If you haven’t been receiving any kind of communication from TDC please speak to myself or Harriet.

If we have to suddenly cancel classes for any reason, ie. weather, natural events, illness etc you will receive direct communication from us or always check the website.

Tap Exams

Well done to the Grade 1, 2  and 3 girls who took their Tap Exams this week. I am so proud of you all. The sessions were held remotely at the studio and after many hours trying to upload the entries, they are now with the ISTD.

BIG NEWS

I am excited to announce The Dance Company has been named BEST DANCE STUDIO in Teddington 2024 by DistinguishedTeaching.co.uk.

Thank you all for your continued support in helping to keep TDC going from strength to strength. I have so many loyal and supportive families and have welcomed so many more friends to the TDC family this term already.

Look for this exciting award on the main page of our website……should i make it bigger???? 🙂

A BIG FAVOUR: TDC would very much appreciate it if you could please leave a Google review for the studio to help boost our presence around the local area. I know a few of our new friends have been but please continue to spread the word about The Dance Company. Why not invite friends to come and see our SHOW in February or bring them along to trial a lesson 🙂
